Day Five: Calm After the Storm
Well... I don't know how much of a storm it really was, but we got a decent amount of snow (I'd say around 3" or so) before I heard the rain beginning to wash it away. I woke up this morning to a thin layer of snow and ice on our lawn, but the streets were clear and so were the skies. This hasn't been much of an eventful winter as far as weather goes, but at least I was able to hop right into my car.
No crows again this morning in our area; I'll see if the peanuts I put out are still there when I get home (funny enough, we don't get many squirrels on our front lawn - lack of trees, perhaps). Jeff was playing with our new snowblower after the first round of snow yesterday and accidentally aimed it at the peanuts I left that morning, so we were both laughing as they tumbled into the grass. At this rate we'll be seeing some peanut plants sprouting up in the springtime!
It's getting harder to keep my eyes on the road, I've noticed, as I wonder what birds I'll see as I drive. Will there be a cardinal in search of seed or a hawk catching an updraft of wind? The trees are once again very quiet today, though the wind hasn't been biting as hard. I saw a large flock of what appeared to be crows taking flight on the other side of the Coca-Cola facility, as I drove past. There was the occasional bird flying by when I hit the main highway for a stretch. If I were a bird, I'm sure I'd want to be where the people are, as they toss out garbage and unwanted scraps. That makes the most sense to me as to why there isn't much activity in our sleepy part of the neighborhood. I'll keep my eyes open!
