Day Eleven: Wet Wings

Gung hay fat choy! It's been raining non-stop all day so far - the one day I had hoped to get to the city for Chinese New Year, my one weekend day off smack dab in the middle of a sunny 20-day forecast. Go figure! I thought the cold, wet weather would keep the crows away, but I was wrong - upon waking up at around 8:30, I heard distant caws outside my window, haha. They're on to me now, no going back!

Once I dragged myself out of bed and threw on my raincoat/umbrella, I looked outside and laughed - across the street, on the lawns diagonal to us on the left and right sides, were TONS of birds looking for food. It wasn't long after that they flew off, and to be honest I wasn't completely sure if they were crows or not (they looked to be black birds but they were too far away to tell - what other birds flock like that though?). I wonder if I've started trouble for my neighbors now that I've been doing this - not that I'm going to stop doing this, of course, if the birds really wanted to swarm my lawn, they could have done so...

Once outdoors, I could immediately hear speculative caws, which amused me - several days ago, I couldn't hear a thing, now I'm the talk of the town, it would seem. Ten minutes after putting down the peanuts and hanging out inside near the peephole, I saw one crow swoop in and help himself to the food; he flew away after a while but returned with two other crows, soaring in with wings spread wide. They made short work of the peanuts and I went out again an hour or so later to replenish the stock in case pickings were slim for them today (though the peanuts have since been unattended). So I suppose there's one sentry crow on surveillance duty who then returns with others once he knows it's safe? I can only assume.

This rain is relentless, but I still hear the occasional caw. Hopefully any feathered friend finds solace in this rough weather today!
